My name is Sydney Gibbons. I am a pastor, educator, author, administrator, husband and father of three adult children. My 36 years of professional service has taken me to reside in Bermuda, Cameroon and Jamaica. I hold three academic degrees in Theology including the Doctor of Ministry degree and courses toward the Ph. D. degree in New Testament Theology. My doctor of ministry project (1992) was the design and implementation of a course to train lay persons the art of evangelistic preaching. I am a committed Seventh-day Adventist Christian.
Embracing the world view of serving humanity and reaching all nations for Christ led me and my family to become foreign missionaries. We served the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists as missionaries in Cameroon and Jamaica. I held positions as Church Ministries Director for the Central African Union Mission, President of the West Cameroon Mission, and Associate Professor at the Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica. In Bermuda I served as pastor of several churches and held multiple conference departmental leadership roles. I am the pastor of the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church and director of Human Relations and Intercultural Ministries for the conference. In addition to church leadership I served as consultant to the National Training Board of the Government of Bermuda (2005-2006), and as Executive Officer for the Government of Bermuda (2007-2010) in the Department of Human Affairs, where I directed the “Commission for Unity and Racial Equality” as its chief technical advisor.
I am passionate about evangelism and have conducted evangelistic meetings in Bermuda, Bahamas, Jamaica, The United States of America, Canada and Africa. My two books on evangelism will be published in 2013. The first discusses the Art of Evangelistic Preaching and the second is a syllabus for the WAVES (School of Evangelism). A third book also published in 2013 discusses ordination and women in ministry for Christ; the title is, Ordained pastor: Wife of one husband? Bibiblical perspectives on ordination revisited. Available at, Advent Source.
While I enjoy providing a variety of services in ministry, locally and internationally, I am most passionate about the ministry of teaching; in particular, the training of pastors and members of the body of Christ to mature in end-time mission as Disciples of Christ. I welcome opportunities to instruct for credit courses through colleges and universities, to lecture for non-credit professional growth opportunities offered to Christian workers, and to train members within local churches for ministry according to their spiritual gifts and best fit for ministry as Disciples of Jesus Christ. I believe that Jesus is coming soon! My life is committed to His service to prepare me, my family and others to meet Him in peace.
